Shared living is a housing arrangement where multiple adults live together in one home and share certain spaces and household responsibilities. Depending on the home, residents may share bedrooms as well as common spaces such as the kitchen, living room, and bathrooms.
Instead of each person carrying the cost of an entire apartment or home alone, shared living can offer a practical alternative for adults looking for more affordable housing options in Oklahoma.
Why Are More People Looking for Affordable Housing Alternatives?
Housing affordability is a significant concern in the Tulsa area. The City of Tulsa reports a shortfall of about 6,000 affordable housing units and says 46% of Tulsa renters are cost-burdened. Housing Solutions Tulsa also reported that average asking rent rose from $829 in early 2020 to $1,054 in the first quarter of 2026.
